NSPN funding is being used at a Leeds school to provide ingredients for a Cooking Club after school – providing an evening meal for the child and their family.
There is a buzz in the room and the children are keen to make the food – if they can manage to do so before they eat it all! The children are clearly enjoying what they are doing.
The children use their chosen ingredients and take the rest home to duplicate the recipe. Anything unopened that they feel their family won’t use is returned to the school pantry for other families to take home.
The majority of the children are Pupil Premium. They are provided with ingredients to create a tasty tea. This week, they are making pizza with a choice of toppings, including olives, fresh tomatoes and green and red peppers.
Each child is provided with ingredients to make a pizza – base, tube of tomato puree, bag of grated mozzarella cheese,  jar of green olives, packet pepperoni, green pepper, red pepper, pack of fresh tomatoes.
The children are encouraged to taste the ingredients, especially things they haven’t tried before. The children learn cooking skills and techniques to support life-long learning.
“My Mum and Dad use the stuff I take home”

“I’m making it different on each side of the pizza so I can share it with my brother – he doesn’t like pepperoni”.

“Mine is for my tea”

“My family are expecting pizza for tea!”

“I usually make more at home with my Mum using the food I take home”.
