This World Food Day, pupils from across Bradford came together to celebrate food, community, and creativity and what a day it was!

Huge thanks to the brilliant teams at FoodSavers Network and FoodSavers Cookery School, everyone at Darley Street Market, the amazing market traders, and of course, the enthusiastic children (and the team from Deli Kitchen) for making the day one to remember.

The children explored the market, chatted with local traders, learned about where food comes from, and then headed to the kitchen to cook up a storm a delicious Thai green curry, bursting with colour and flavour.  One pupil said, “I feel like I’m on MasterChef!” while another said excitedly, “I’ve never cooked before, now I want to do it again!”

For many, it was their first time tasting new foods or buying ingredients like spices, watermelons, and papayas…experiences they couldn’t wait to share with their families.

One teacher summed it up beautifully:

“It’s amazing to see the children so engaged, they were asking questions, trying everything, and really thinking about where food comes from. It’s a day they’ll remember for a long time.”

Our Co-founder Nathan Atkinson added:

“This is what the National School Pantry Network is all about, creating opportunities for children to connect with food in a positive, hands-on way. When we give young people the chance to explore, taste, and learn, we’re helping them build the foundations for a healthier future.”

This enrichment day was part of the National School Pantry Network’s mission to help schools across the UK make healthy, sustainable food more accessible, ensuring every child can focus on learning, not hunger.

Thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate #WorldFoodDay and to those who continue to support the movement for ‘Better Food and a Better Future.’
