Across the National School Pantry Network, schools are using their funding in creative, impactful ways that give families choice, dignity, and support when it matters most. From after-school cooking clubs to community hubs and family pantries, the NSPN is helping schools build healthier, more resilient communities. Here is what Dinnington Community Primary School are doing.
Model: Pantry
Focus: Staple foods, accessibility, compassionate support
Dinnington Community Primary School uses NSPN funding to stock a pantry of essential tinned, dried, and jarred goods such as pasta, rice, beans, tuna, cereals, and fruit. The pantry runs twice weekly for different year groups after drop-off, with parents able to request items if they cannot attend.
Families value the essential staples, and staff are exploring adding fresh fruits and vegetables, high-cost items families struggle to afford. The pantry has also become a place for conversation, connection, and emotional support.
Impact Highlights:
-
Reliable access to staple food items for families in need
-
Space for parents to chat, connect, and feel supported
-
Families share the resource with others who are struggling
-
Real relief during hardship: some families are skipping meals to feed their children
The Officer Manager and NSPN Lead at the school comments:
“I have been asking the parents who attend, how they are finding the pantry, and the feedback is really positive. They have all commented on how much this helps them. A big thank you for all that you have done for our community.”
Here is some parents’ feedback:
“It’s absolutely fantastic, it really helps me out.”
“Food is really expensive…it helps me to feed my kids.”
The NSPN is growing and we’d love your school to be part of it.
