As we enter the new year, we’re excited to announce our upcoming 5 k Every Day Challenge, running across January, an opportunity for schools, community groups, families and individuals to come together, move for good and help drive real change through the National School Pantry Network (NSPN).
Why this challenge matters: we know that for many children the simple basics – access to nutritious food, a calm and supportive learning environment, time and energy to move and grow, are missing pieces of the puzzle. The NSPN supports schools to bridge that gap by ensuring the wrap-around support they need to create healthy, equitable learning environments. When we move, we raise funds and visibility for that work.
We’re asking you to commit whether that’s walking, jogging, running or a mixture, every day in January cover 5 km (or equivalent movement) and help us raise funds for the NSPN so more schools can build Healthy People–Healthy Planet foundations.
Here’s how you can take part:
- Sign up on our platform (link here) and pledge your daily distance.
- Daily check-in posts: share your progress on social media, tag us and inspire your community.
- Encourage your school or workplace to form a team and turn it into a collective movement.
- Secure sponsorships (even small amounts) for each 5k you complete, every £ raised channels into food-security, wellbeing and education provision in schools.
- Celebrate at the end of January: recognition, stories of impact and a renewed momentum for 2025-26.
“Taking part in this challenge is a physical step but more importantly a symbol of our commitment to equity, health and opportunity for all children,” says Kevin Mackay, co-founder of Rethink Food and driving force behind the challenge.
We invite you: gather your 5k, lace-up, log your distance and join us in making a tangible difference for children, families and schools. Together we’ll move forward into a healthier, fairer future.
