This January, supporters across the UK (and beyond) took on the 5K Every Day Challenge in support of the National School Pantry Network, committing to move 5 kilometres every day, whatever the weather.
From icy mornings and snowfall to sunshine in warmer parts of the world, participants showed up day after day with one shared purpose: helping ensure no child starts the school day hungry.
Together, in week one challengers have covered 600km and raised vital funds to support schools and families through the National School Pantry Network, which provides funding, training and wraparound support for dignified, stigma-free school pantries.
Nathan Atkinson, co-founder of Rethink Food, said:
“What’s been so powerful about this challenge is the consistency. People chose to show up every day, and that mirrors the kind of support families need, reliable, practical and rooted in community. This is everyday action turning into real impact.”
Kevin Mackay, co-founder of Rethink Food and a participant in the challenge, added:
“Some days were tough, but every step reminded me why the National School Pantry Network exists. This challenge has directly helped schools support families with dignity, choice and good food and that’s something everyone involved should be incredibly proud of.”
Thank you to everyone who is taking part, donated and shared to date. Your steps so far this January are helping build stronger school communities and a healthier future for children and families across the UK.
