FUTURES
We imagine a future where every child, in every classroom, starts their day with a full stomach and a focused mind.
A future where no teacher has to quietly buy snacks for pupils out of their own pocket.
Where parents feel supported, not judged.
And where communities come together to ensure every child has the chance to learn, grow, and thrive.
How the National School Pantry Network Works
No child should have to face the school day hungry. But today, millions of children in the UK are starting their mornings without proper nutrition, affecting their ability to learn, grow, and thrive.
At the National School Pantry Network, we believe in changing that for good.
For over a decade, Rethink Food has been working on the frontlines of food insecurity.
We’ve seen the difference it makes when children are given consistent access to nourishing food. Now, through this growing network of school pantries, we’re taking that impact further reaching more schools, more families, and more communities than ever before.
The National School Pantry Network is not just about food – it’s about dignity, opportunity, and equality.
With the release of the new Child Poverty Strategy, the government has acknowledged what schools have been telling us for years – poverty and hunger are holding children back every single day.
Food insecurity in schools is real, increasing, and hurting children’s ability to learn and thrive.
We’re proud that the National School Pantry Network has been recognised within the strategy as an example of meaningful, community-led support. School pantries provide dignity, consistency and choice for families while reducing the stigma that too often surrounds food aid.
Now is the moment for bold, joined-up action, national leadership paired with practical, local solutions. NSPN stands ready to help deliver the change children urgently need.

“No child should go hungry - yet millions do. Schools are stepping in as emergency food hubs, but this isn’t their burden to bear alone. The National School Pantry Network ensures children have access to nutritious food at school and home, empowering families and strengthening communities. This isn’t charity; it’s a right. It’s time for change.”
